Changing The Game

Our mission is to shift the dynamics underlying power, politics, and participation in the U.S.
Power:   To empower civic organizations and social movements to inspire individual participation and cooperative action for sustained influence that rises to balance the influence of established power structures.
Politics:  To enable our public servants to work together effectively creating policies and programs that build healthy, resilient and responsible playing fields for our business, social and governance institutions.
Participation:  To provide processes, opportunities and pathways for people to engage in purposeful conversations and actions that realize their responsibilities as contributing citizens

OVERVIEW
CHANGING THE GAME  Power.Politics.Participation

How can we effectively change the interdependent game of concentrated power, vitriolic politics, hyperbolic media, and anemic citizen participation?  How can we work effectively across all our boundaries to cooperatively design integrated change initiatives which foster more generative qualities of;  wielding power, political cooperation, public discourse, and public engagement that yields effective cooperation for purposeful solutions?

CHANGE DESIGN LAB

Changing the Game has formulated the Change Design Lab, a unique vehicle for doing “breakthrough” projects that are practical, impactful, sustainable, creative and integrative.

The Change Design Lab’s purpose is to develop high leverage, rapid prototype, action research projects.  The projects are intended to help translate the rising spirit for cooperating across political divides into practical, replicable and scalable mechanisms for transpartisan conversations, relationship building and cooperative work at the living room, community and national coalition building levels.

WISDOM
“Power, properly understood, is the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political, or economic changes. In this sense power is not only desirable but necessary in order to implement the demands of love and justice. One of the greatest problems of history is that the concepts of love and power are usually contrasted as polar opposites. Love is identified with a resignation of power and power with a denial of love. What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive and that love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”              —Martin Luther King, Jr

The Original Concept Overview Paper (summer 2010)

Shifting the game of Power, Politics & Participation from conflict to cooperation by Empowering Transpartisan Bridge Building and Integrated Solution Design Initiatives.

 Essential Questions

A small team of change agents is in the process of formulating a new initiative called

Changing The Game.  Our endeavor is focused on and defined by the following questions:

 ·         How can we shift the increasingly unproductive and corrosive political power and conflict game towards a more constructive and cooperative solutions game?

·         How can we integrate and empower transpartisan bridge building with other complementary fields dedicated to fostering collaborative solutions and a brighter future for the citizens and institutions of our country?

Changing the Game- Core Design Principles

The

form and function of Changing The Game will be based on two core design principles.

·         We are designing Changing The Game to provide a unique contribution primarily by empowering, connecting, resourcing and concentrating the effort and impact of already existing entities as well as emerging and essential initiatives.

·         We intend to offer a framework and a structure (method and means) for connecting and creating synergy between those that are doing “best practices” bridge building work with those that are fostering creative and collaborative solution projects for our country and our communities.

Changing the Game- Connecting the Dots

We are currently designing Changing The Game to:

1.      Resource and Empower the field of transpartisan bridge building: the work of finding common ground and commitment across deep political (and related) divides

2.      Launch the Change Design Lab for the purpose of developing prototype projects, and to conduct on-going action research initiatives that integrate transpartisan bridge building with the following three interdependent core elements:

·         Issues and Information - Involve key issue and information entities (i.e., advocacy groups, think tanks, associations, academia, researchers and private sector players) that are connected to contentious subject(s) to participate together toward a shared understanding of the subject and how it fits and relates to the larger system while considering the best possible, unbiased information needed to inform a productive solution design process.

·         Participative Design Processes - Engage representatives of all stakeholders and interested parties in conversations, processes and activities that are proven to be extraordinarily effective in developing and implementing practical, creative and common sense solutions and cooperative approach to addressing our most critical and complex challenges.

·         Communication and Media – Produce, and assist others to produce, print, video and spokespeople who can carry the message into both the new and established media channels for the purpose of contributing to the public discourse supporting more; cooperative politics; effective solution design processes; and coordinated action that more effectively address complex and systemic challenges.
